What happens here

Private message threads and members-only chat rooms. Vetted intros and honest answers: conversations you can't have on LinkedIn, about the deal, the hire, the board, the offer. Backchannel transmits your messages securely between verified members and hosts invite-only rooms where senior leaders compare notes with their peers.

Members-only rooms

Chat rooms for people who can't post publicly

Backchannel hosts invite-only chat rooms for social networking among verified senior leaders. Rooms are organized by industry, role, and topic: small, moderated, and never searchable from the outside. Ask the question you'd never put your name to on a public forum, and get answers from peers who've actually been in the room.

i.

Peer rooms

+

VP+ operators in your function, comparing notes in real time.

ii.

Deal rooms

+

Spun up around a live transaction, closed when it's done.

iii.

Topic rooms

+

Comp, boards, exits, org design. The conversations that don't happen in public.

i.

Privacy is the architecture

+

There is no user directory. No search. No browsing. No one can look you up by name, company, title, or anything else. Your name never reaches another person unless you explicitly approve it.

ii.

Concierges can't talk to each other

+

No one else's concierge can communicate with your concierge. Every concierge works through the platform orchestration layer independently. This prevents any possibility of social engineering between agents.

iii.

Your concierge can't directly query the database

+

The AI concierge does not have direct access to user data. Every request goes through the platform's API layer, which enforces strict access controls, rate limits, and privacy rules at every step.

iv.

Anti-spam by design

+

Every outbound message has to earn its place. The system has configurable rate limits, quiet hours enforcement, and a hard safety cap. Your concierge only contacts you when it has something genuinely relevant.

v.

Consent is granular and reversible

+

You choose your privacy level during onboarding. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP. You can ask to see or delete your data whenever you want.

vi.

Built by people who take this seriously

+

Our CTO has built some of the most secure data platforms in the world at Metamarkets, Snapchat, and Metaplex. The architecture was designed privacy-first from the ground up.

Common questions

Things people ask

01

Am I going to get spammed?

+

No. Your concierge is your agent and your bouncer. No one even knows you're on Backchannel unless you agree to be connected. Pitches, prospecting, and recruiting outreach get filtered before they reach you.

02

What does it cost?

+

Free. Backchannel works with conference and community organizers to improve attendee experience and reduce spam. If you've been to an industry conference in the past year, your membership should be covered.

03

What happens to my data?

+

Your profile and conversations are private by default and never sold, scraped, or surfaced to anyone outside Backchannel. We use a privacy-first architecture: members opt in to every connection, and nothing is searchable.

04

Is this an app?

+

Your concierge and your message threads are available via SMS, and that's all most members ever use. Chat rooms are available in the optional app and on the web, but nothing is required.

05

Who decides who's in?

+

We do, with input from current members. The bar is roughly: senior leaders at brands, agencies, networks, studios, and platforms you'd recognize. Vouching from existing members helps a lot.

06

How private is "off the record"?

+

Members are verified and bound by community norms around discretion. Nothing here is searchable or visible to anyone outside.

07

What are rooms?

+

Invite-only chat rooms for social networking with other verified members, organized by industry, role, and topic. You can be invited to a room by a member or ask your concierge to place you in one. Nothing in a room is visible to anyone outside it.
